🐓 Regardless of your ethical stance on animal welfare, there is one undeniable fact: meat production is a major driver of climate change.
Let’s break down why.
🌱 First of all, it's an inefficient use of both water and calories. Think about it… if you have to grow food to feed your food, most of the calories will be lost in sustaining living animals - 97% in the case of cows.
👩🌾 In fact, meat production requires a quarter of the world's fresh water and almost 80% of farmland - and farmland takes up 26% of all land on earth!
🌳 These figures are significant, especially when valuable carbon-storing forests are increasingly being cleared to accommodate more profitable farmland.
🌍 And we still haven’t come to the biggest problem of all: methane. Farm animals - primarily cattle - produce a whopping 14.5% of global greenhouse gases.
